Monthly Sea Ice Monitoring (experimental)
Northern Hemisphere: During September, sea ice was generally less than normal. Sea ice concentrations were 20-60% below normal in regions from the Laptev Sea to the Beaufort Sea, and 20%-40% below normal in regions north to the Kara Sea. Sea ice concentrations were near normal in other regions.
Southern Hemisphere: During September, sea ice was generally more than normal. Sea ice Concentrations were 20-60% above normal along 60°S in the western South Atlantic Ocean, the western South Indian Ocean and the central South Pacific Meanwhile, 20-40% anomalies were in the sea south to South Africa and the northern Ross Sea..
