Sponsored by CMA (China Meteorological Administration), the Tenth International Seminar on Climate System and Climate Change (ISCS) is held in Beijing between July 15 and 26, 2013. The event was co-sponsored by SAFEA (State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs) and START (global change System for Analysis, Research and Training), and hosted by Beijing Climate Centre (BCC).
The seminar mainly focused on the following topics: the procedures and interactions of climate systems; climate change and climate prediction; climate and climate change of the cryosphere; atmospheric chemistry and climate effect of aerosol; climate change adaptation and sustainable society development. The seminar invited 7 internationally reputed experts as teachers and lecturers from the UK, Japan, New Zealand, USA, the Netherlands and Malaysia.. The seminar also staged comprehensive discussions.
The seminar attracted more than 90 Chinese and 30 foreign participants. The Chinese participates were from CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences), CMA (China Meteorological Administration), SOA (State Oceanic Administration), Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Lanzhou University and Sun Yat-sen University. The foreign participants came from USA, Korea, Japan, Kenya, Russia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Thailand, Egypt and Yemen. Dr. Chao Qingchen, Deputy Director-General of BCC/CMA presided over the opening ceremony and Mr. Luo Yunfeng, made a speech representing CAS.
”Climate change and extreme climate events have great influence the sustainable social and economic development, Chao said. “Although CMA has made some progress in climate monitoring, assessment and prediction and climate change research after years of effort, we still need to improve our research ability and expand our knowledge of the latest research developments in climate system and climate change. We hope to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation between China and the world by holding the ISCS.”
Dr. Qin Dahe, Academician of CAS and President of ISCS, Mr. Luo Yunfeng, Director-General of Department of Science & Technology and Climate Change of CMA, Mr. Yuan Xudong, Representative of SAFEA, and Mr. Yu Yubin, Deputy Director-General of CMSA’s Department of Human Resources (representing Dr. Qin Dahe) presented the lecturers with special certificates. Prof. Wang Caifang from CMA’s Training Center and Ms. Gao Yun, Deputy Director-General of CMA’s Department of Science & Technology, attended the opening ceremony
