The 13th International Seminar on Climate System and Climate Change Opened
Organized by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), co-sponsored by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), and hosted by the National Climate Centre and Chengdu University of Information Technology (CUIT), the Thirteenth International Seminar on Climate System and Climate Change (11-22 July 2016, Chengdu) is opening today at CUIT, China.
Dr. Qin Dahe, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and President of ISCS, and Dr. Zhou Jiliu, President of Chengdu University of Information Technology made address respectively. Dr. Chao Qingchen, Deputy Director-General of National Climate Center of China Meteorological Administration chaired the opening ceremony.
Dr. Qin indicated that countries around the world should take positive actions and implement effective measures to limit climate change, thereby creating a more prosperous and sustainable future. The latest advances of climate change science and technologies served as the basis for the adoption of the Paris Agreement as well as informed the policies and actions of China on adapting and mitigating climate change. He believe all participants may learn more about cutting-edge advances in the international climate change research, through this seminar and through lectures by the resource persons.
Dr. Qin Dahe, the President of ISCS, presented the Letter of Appointment respectively to Dr. Nancy Bertler, Associate Professor at Joint Antarctic Research Institute from New Zealand, and Dr. Patrick Sheridan, Acting Chief of Aerosol Group, NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory from USA.
Over 170 participants attend the seminar, including 14 foreign participants from 12 countries and territories from Asia and Africa. Among them, 7 WMO fellows from NUIST are funded by WMO.
For this seminar, five internationally well-known scientists including Professor Nancy Bertler, Professor Patrick Sheridan, Professor David Carlson (Director of WCRP), Professor Liu Jian (Director of UNEP-IEMP) and Professor Marjorie McGuirk (Consultant of CASE Consultants International) are invited to serve as lecturers. They will make presentations on the following aspects respectively: cryosphere climate and climate change, aerosols and climate change, climate models and climate change scenarios, climate system observation and analysis and climate change impact and adaptation.
Since 2004, CMA has successfully hosted 12 such seminars on climate system and climate change, with over 80 world famous professors having been invited as presenters and with more than 1700 trainees from Chinese research institutes, universities and various meteorological departments having participated. Since 2007, we have also invited overseas trainees from Asia, Africa and South America to expand the international visibility of this program. Now, it has become an international platform for knowledge, technical and personal exchanges on climate change. More information of ISCS is available on BCC’s website http://bcc.ncc-cma.net
