The Forum on Regional Climate Monitoring-Assessment-Prediction for Asia in 2020 (FOCRAII 2020) Convened
The Forum on Regional Climate Monitoring-Assessment-Prediction for Asia (FOCRAII) was sponsored by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and China Meteorological Administration (CMA), co-sponsored by the Beijing Climate Centre (BCC), and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The FOCRAII aims to address long-term forecast, climate monitoring, data services and product training annually since 2005. Participants from international organizations and national meteorological and hydrological services (NMHSs) shared the monitoring of regional climate and discussed the outlook of the climate anomalies in the upcoming summer.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, FOCRAII 2020 (Sixteenth Session of FOCRAII) was held on 7 May 2020 via video conferencing. The forum is consisting of two sessions: (I) climate monitoring and prediction, (II) climate impacts and services. Presentations and interactive discussions will facilitate information sharing and opportunities for cooperation.
Totally 40 participants attend the online forum, including delegates from RCC Pune and IMD (India), TCC (Japan), NAMEM(Mongolia), KMA(Republic of Korea), NEACC(Russia Federation), TMD (Thailand), MONRE(Vietnam), HKO (Chinese Hong Kong) and SMG (Chinese Macao) from RAII, and BoM (Australia), BMKG (Indonesia), MET Malaysia, PAGASA (Philippines) from RAV, officials from WMO Secretariat and WMO Regional Office for Asia and the South-West Pacific, and experts from ESCAP, Asian Development Bank and Florida State University.
The participants exchanged their views of the climate monitoring, climate prediction as well as the possible climate impacts on the agriculture, human health, water resources and emergency management over Asia.
A “consensus” prediction of the summer climate in the RA II region was produced as an output of the virtual meeting.
