The Second Session of the Forum on Regional Climate Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction for Asia was opened in Beijing, April 6, 2006.

Dr. Qin Dahe, Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Dr. Buruhani.S.Nyenzi, Director of World Climate Program Department, WMO and Dr. Dong Wenjie, Director of Beijing Climate Centre (BCC/CMA) (National Climate Center of CMA), addressed respectively in the opening ceremony.

This forum is sponsored by CMA and WMO and co-sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences. The representatives are from Bahrain, Bangladesh, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Ecuador, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

The Forum, which will be held annually, provides a platform of dialogue and communication for the Asian countries and other climate operational centers around the world to deal with the problems in climate monitoring, prediction and impact assessment. It will not only promote the cooperation and communication on climate operation and service within the Asian regions, but also between Asia and other regions around the world.
