The major climate events July 2006

This month, the national average temperature is 22.3℃, 0.9℃ higher than perennial same period(21.4℃), the national average precipitation is 116.8 mm, and nearly the same with perennial same period (116.8 mm). In this month, the strong tropical storm "Bilis"and typhoon "Kaemi"landed in the Fujian coast, and had caused a lot of death and large economic losses. Rain gush and floods broke frequently, especially in Anhui, Hunan, Guangxi, and Heilongjiang provinces. Strong convective weather occurred frequently, specially in Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Hebei Province. The situation of drought in Eastern of Northwest China and Eastern Inner Mongolia became better, but was still worse in Sichuan, Chongqing, and Hubei. The heat weather broke in Jiangnan, northern of South China and eastern part of Southwest.

The major climate events of July 2006 including: the strong tropical storm "Bilis"and typhoon "Kaemi"landed in the Fujian coast. The death caused by "Bilis" is the highest of this 10 years. About 17.8 million people and 1.5 million hectares of crops suffered the flooding and rain gush, 140 people dead, and the direct economic losses was5.57 billion yuan. From the early July, the situation of drought in Eastern of Northwest China and Eastern Inner Mongolia became better, some of these areas had heavy rain. But the drought was still worse in Sichuan, Chongqing, and Hubei. Strong convective weather occurred frequently, specially in Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Hebei Province. The heat weather broke in Jiangnan, northern of South China and eastern part of Southwest. High temperature days of Eastern Sichuan, central and northern Chongqing was 10-15 days more than the same perennial period. The temperature of some areas had over 42℃. The number of days with high mean temperature of Chongqing was the highest for the same period in history. The average temperature of Chongqing in July was 30℃, and was the highest historical value since 1951. High use of electricity has brought great influence on people's normal production and life and people's health. High-temperature caused heat stroke, at least nine people killed in Chongqing, two in Shanxi Xi'an.
