The impact assessment of No. 6 Typhoon "Prap Iroon" of this year

1.Trails:
In the afternoon of August 1, 2006, Prap Iroon, the No. 6 tropical storm of this year, generated at the central of South China Sea, at 8:00 p.m. on August 1 it strengthened to be a strong tropical storm, at noon of August 2 it became a typhoon, at 19:20 on August 3 it land in Guangdong Province. While its landing, the largest wind rounded the center was 12 level (33 m/s). After landing, it weakened into a strong tropical storm and heading northwest direction of movement, in the morning of August 4, in the Guangxi, it weakened into a tropical storm, on August 5 weakened into a tropical low voltage.
2. Weather conditions:
August 2-7, 2006, heavy rain broke in Hainan, Guangdong, southern Fujian and southeast of Guangxi most precipitation was 100-200 mm in general, in the south areas of Guangdong and Guangxi, the precipitation was up to 200-300 mm, and accumulated precipitation reached 429.1 mm in Xisha station of Hainan. Guangdong and coastal islands emerged 8-11 level strong winds, gust up to 13-14 level, the strong winds in west of Zhujiang River arrived 7-9 level, gust up to 10-11 level, among them, the largest gust was 42m/s (equivalent to 14 level).
3. Impact:
According to estimates, the current rainfall affected area amounted to 1.989 million square kilometers, rain gush and heavy rain affected area were up to 468,000 and 232,000 square kilometres. Compared with the tropical cyclone (≥8 level) its impact is only less than No. 4 strong tropical storm "Bilis".

The preliminary statistics of August 6, 10.5047 million people of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan provinces suffered in varying degrees, exactly 75 deaths, 11 people missing, emergency transfered 816,500 people, 22,500 houses collapsed, 128,400 house were damaged. The direct economic losses was 6.697 billion yuan.
