The 2005 Annual Meeting of the China Meteorological Society was held from 25 to 27 October 2005 in Suzhou. Approximately 1000 persons from relevant meteorological institutions attended the meeting.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Academician Wu Rongsheng, director of CMS. Academician Huang Ronghui, deputy director of CMS, Dr. Yu Rucong, deputy administrator of CMA, deputy mayor of Suzhou and leaders from Suzhou Scientific Committee attended the ceremony and made speeches. Eight experts were invited to deliver keynote reports. Dr. Zheng Guoguang, deputy director of CMS, deputy administrator of CMA, made a summary in the closing ceremony.
The theme of the annual meeting is meteorological science and technology with social and economic sustainable development. There are 12 sub-sessions including 1) integrated atmospheric observation technology; 2) climate variability and change in Asia; 3) Typhoon, rainstorm and disaster prevention; 4) food safety and entironment monitoring; 5) climate-ecology-environment and sustainable development; 6) workshop on establishment of public meteorological channel; 7) THORPEX, high-impact weather event, ensemble numerical forecast and its application; 8) forum on revolution and development on meteorological periodical; 9) rainstorm, flood and safety; 10) forum on public meteorology and services; 11) forum on windpower utilization; 12) forum on meteorological science popularization.
Dr. Dong Wenjie, director-general of NCC, director of climate and ecology committee of CMS, chaired the fifth sub-session; Dr. Li Weijing and Dr. Luo Yong, deputy director-general of NCC, director and deputy director of climatology committee of CMS, chaired the second sub-session respectively.
