Typhoon Xangsane hit Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand

During the end of September and beginning of October, typhoon Xangsane hit Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand, and resulted in 261 people dead, 22 people missing and millions of people homeless, with the disaster being the worst in Philippines.

Floods in Mexico

During the first dekad in October, persistent torrential rains caused floods in southeastern Mexico and resulted in 6 people dead.
