Dr. Jia Xiaolong and Dr. Huang Lei were invited to make excellent reports at Series Scientific Front Forum of Climate Change on October 23, 2006. This is the second public lectures hold by Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC, which is arranged for the new BCC doctors of this year.
Dr. Jia Xiaolong was graduated from Institute of Atmospheric physics of Chinese Academy of Science in June 2006, and now working in Division of Climate System Diagnostics and Prediction/BCC. He mainly engaged in the numerical simulation study of Tropical Atmospheric Intraseasonal Oscillation Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO). In his report, he mainly introduced his work in improving Global General Circulation Model (GCM) simulation ability of MJO. Including: 1) The GCM simulation of MJO has very strong sensitivity to Cumulus Parameterization, diabatic heating vertical profile is an important physical factor of parameterized methods influence GCM simulation ability of MJO. 2) GCM simulation of MJO also has obvious sensitivity in vertical transmission of Cumulus momentum in Cumulus Convective Parameterized Methods.
Dr. Huang Lei was graduated from Institute of Geography Science and Resources Research of Chinese Academy of Science, and now working in Division of Climate Change/BCC. In his report, which named the reconstruction and sudden change analysis of thousand years precipitation in Qinghai Delingha area, he mainly introduced his many years’ research work on tree-ring climatology and historic climate change. Mainly includes: 1) the basic principle of tree-ring climatology. 2) The reconstruction of thousand years precipitation in Qinghai Delingha area. 3) The change characteristic and sudden change analysis of thousand years precipitation in Qinghai Delingha area. Dr. Huang Lei had showed everybody the basic principles, steps, difficulties and complexity which exist in the research of tree-ring climatology through massive pictures, introduced his methods and achievement on the reconstruction of thousand years precipitation in Qinghai Delingha area by using Qilian China Savin tree-ring materials, analyzed the change rule and sudden change characteristic of thousand years precipitation, and also discussed the possible relation between precipitation change and solar activity.
The public lecture has attracted nearly 30 scientific researchers, professional service personnel and graduate students, and they had discussed the above contents. Prof. Feng Guolin, Deputy Director of Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC presided the public lecture.
