Heavy rains and floods
During the 1st and 2nd dekads, heavy rains attacked Yunnan China and caused 39 people dead and 52 hurt.
During the first dekad, persistent torrential rains caused floods in southeastern Mexico and resulted in 6 people dead.
From the end of the 1st dekad and the beginning of the 2nd dekad, torrential rains caused severe floods in most of Thailand, with disaster being the worst in Bangkok. The floods resulted in at least 47 people dead and 8.1 million dollars’ direct economic losses.
During middle of the 2nd dekad, severe floods attacked middle Burma and resulted in 13 people dead and thousands of people homeless.
During the 3rd dekad, torrential rains attacked Sri Lanka and resulted in at least 11 people dead and more than 260,000 evacuated.
During the 3rd dekad, heavy rains attacked middle Kenya and resulted in at least 10 people dead and thousands of people homeless.
From end of the 2nd dekad to the 3rd dekad, torrential rains caused floods in Venezuela, and resulted in at least 10 people dead.
Typhoon
During the end of September and beginning of October, typhoon Xangsane hit Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand, and resulted in 261 people dead, 22 people missing and millions of people homeless, with disaster being the worst in Philippines.During the end of October, typhoon Cimaron hit northern Philippines and resulted in at least 19 people dead and 15 missing.
Snowstorm
During October 13th and 14th, a severe snowstorm attacked Southern Ontario in Canada and northeastern USA and caused at least 3 people dead. This storm also set some new records: the highest snowfall in Buffalo of USA, the earliest snow in Chicago and Detroit.
Drought and High temperature
During October, severe drought occurred in most of eastern China.
During the 2nd dekad in October, temperatures were above normal and precipitations weres obviously below normal in southeastern Australia. Above conditions caused severe drought and forest fires frequently.
During the 3rd dekad in October, temperatures were above normal in Algeria and caused forest fires frequently.
