Northern Hemisphere
During October 2006, area of snow cover was all above normal in the Northern Hemisphere, Eurasia, and North America .
For the month, number of days with snow cover (NDSC) was generally more than 5 days in northern Eurasia and northern North America north to 50°N and NDSC was more than 25 days in northern and central Russia and northeastern North America. For the month, NDSC was observed 5~20 days more than average in regions from northern Europe to middle Russia and middle of Northern North America.. Meanwhile, NDSC was observed 5~15 days less than average in southwestern boundary of China and northwestern North America .
China
During October 2006, total area of snow cover was below normal in China, near normal in Northeast China and below normal in northern Xinjiang and the Tibet Plateau .
For the month, snow cover was observed in the Tibet Plateau and parts of northeastern China. NSDC anomalies were about 5 days in the parts of Tibet Plateau, meanwhile NDSC anomalies were about -5~-15 days at western side of the Tibet Plateau and western Xinjiang.
