The 44th session of the “Development research of climate system model” Forum was held in BCC on December 28, 2006. The meeting was presided by Prof. Li Qingquan (Deputy Director of Division of Climate System Modeling), and invited Dr. Liu Hui (U.S. NCAR) to make a report. Prof. Wu Tongwen (Deputy Director of Division of Climate System Modeling), Dr. Gong Jiandong (Assistant Director-General) and relevent experts from National Meteorological Center, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences attended the meeting.
On the meeting, Dr. Liu Hui made a report named “Application of GPS radio occultation data in improving regional analyses of water vapor and temperature over tropical oceans”. In his report, through simulation and case study, he showed that the use of the latest GPS data, contribute to improving the model simulation of temperature, wet farm structure, and reduced moisture deviation in lower troposphere, so that to make the hurricane origin (predict by mesoscale model) to be closer to observations. All the participants had a discussion and exchange on his report.
After the meeting, Dr. Li Huang, former Deputy Administrator of CMA had a discussion with Dr. Liu Hui on the applicant of GPS data in China.
