The consultation meeting of spring sand/dust storm prediction in 2007 was held by BCC on 9 January. Experts from Beijing, Hebei, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Xinjiang provincial meteorological administration, Department of Forecasting Services and Disaster Mitigation/CMA, Department of Policy and Regulations/CMA, NMC/CMA, National Satellite Meteorological Center/CMA, CAMS/CMA, and IAP/CAS attended the meeting.
The sand/dust storms in 2006 were reviewed, the causes of sand/dust storms were analyzed, prediction factor as early characteristics of weather and climate were diagnosis and analyzed, and outlook of spring sand/dust storm in 2007 was given in the meeting.
Dr. Xu Xiaofeng (Deputy Administrator of CMA) and Dr. Song Lianchun (Director-General of Department of Forecasting Services and Disaster Mitigation/CMA) gave speech, and Dr. Dong Wenjie (Director-General of BCC) presided the meeting. Dr. Xu Xiaofeng (Deputy Administrator of CMA) said experts need to carefully review and analyze the past sand/dust storms, full use of new materials, new methods, new means in the monitoring and prediction of sand/dust storms, and rolling prediction in time, so that to provide good sand/dust storms prediction service.
