Prof. He Jinhai from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology was invited by Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC on January 18. He visited Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC and delivered a report named “Discussions on the onset characteristics of Asian Summer Monsoon and the importance of Asian-Australian land bridge”.
Many domestic and foreign experts have made a lot of research from different aspects to reveal the outbreak of Asian summer monsoon process and the physical mechanism. But there are still different opinions on the first outbreak of monsoon region and the time. Prof. He Jinhai is a well-known monsoon expert, he has long been engaged in monsoon research and achieved fruitful results. In his report, he mainly talked about the features of Asian Summer Monsoon and the importance of Asian-Australian land bridge. Based on his analysis work, he pointed out in the process of outbreak of Asian summer monsoon, the monsoon convection activities first strengthened near Sumatra Island and then spread northward. Monsoon outbreak in eastern Bay of Bengal, southern Indochina Peninsula and southwest of South China Sea at the similar time. He also stressed the important role of Asian-Australian land bridge in northward spread of strong convective activity and monsoons establish process.
More than 30 research staff and graduate students listened to Prof. He Jinhai’s report and had a warm discussion. The report meeting was presided by Prof. Feng Guolin (Deputy Director of Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC).
