Climate change became the hot topic on the Fifth Session of the 10th CPPCC

On March 1, the Fifth Session of the 10th CPPCC held its first news conference. On the meeting, the warm winter and its impacts on China's economic and social development has become the hot topic.

The representative Mr. Wu Jianmin said "warm winter" is very important. Climate change is not only scientists concern, but also the whole world. It is an indisputable fact. Climate change is a major global issue and common challenge that human facing.

Mr. Wu Jianmin said that China pay close attention on climate change, on February 18 this year (the first day of China’s Spring Festival), Chairman Hu Jintao visited Gansu Provincial Meteorological Administration. CPPCC and most its members are very concerned about climate change and environmental issues. Since the Fourth Session of the 10th CPPCC, more than 200 proposals about environment has been submitted, such as the Central Committee of Jiu San Society, they devoted "Measures for adaptation to global climate change". They said we should classify the impact of global climate change into the formulation of economic and social development plans.

On the meeting, Mr. Wu Jianmin introduced Academician Qin Dahe (CPPCC member, Administrator of CMA, Co-Chairman of IPCC Working Group 1) and IPCC to the participants. IPCC have 3 Working Groups, among them Working Group 1 is the most important. Academician Qin Dahe told that about 300 delegates and 500 journalists attended the Tenth session of IPCC Working Group 1 that held in Paris, so it showed the global concern on climate change. On February 2, the Fourth Assessment Report of IPCC Working Group 1 had been published. It was written by the two organizations lead by Academician Qin Dahe and Dr. Susan Solomon.

Recently, Academician Qin Dahe gave suggestions on climate change. He suggested that we should make state's major policies on dealing with climate change, building national scientific projects, and formulate long-term strategies for the defense of extreme climate disasters. All the suggestions have caused great attention of China’s central leaders.

There are many scientists in CPPCC. The common features of scientists are very effective, and the suggestions they provide are based on the facts, just like Academician Qin Dahe. He is a well-known national Science Academician, he gave suggestions after doing a lot of research. Mr. Wu Jianmin believes in this meeting, participants will continue to give suggestions on climate change. China will work together with other countries to better deal with the serious challenges of climate change.
