As project leader, Prof. Chen Xiaoguang mainly introduced the analysis of the climate change facts in Ningxia, and made assessment on the recent impacts. By using UK PRECIS model, they simulated the climate change impacts on ecological, agricultural, society and environment for the next 100 years in Ningxia. The results showed that 1) The temperature in Ningxia has been ever increasing in recent decades, the annual rainfall reduced 3.6mm every 10 years, a sharp increase in drought, and frost frequency increased; 2) In the coming century, the temperature of the region is likely to continue rising, although the precipitation increased, it is impossible to mitigate the drought effectively; 3) Cloud fraction and solar radiation will be further reduced, which will directly lead to decrease soil moisture and increase drought.
Prof. Chen Xiaoguang also introduced the climate change research institutes and research fields of British Ministry of Agricultural Development, and his working experience in UK. Research staff and graduate students from BCC, CAMS and Department of Scientific and Technological Development attended the meeting, asked questions and exchanged opinions. The report meeting was presided by Prof. Feng Guolin (Deputy Direct-General of Laboratory for Climate Studies/CMA).
