Academician Ding Yihui made a special report named "Climate change and its effects" in Shenzhen

March 27, Academician Ding Yihui (famous international climate scientist, Deputy Direct-General of Climate Change Experts Committee) invited by theoretical study group of Shenzhen, he made a special report named "Climate change and its effects" in Shenzhen.

Academician Ding Yihui pointed out that global warming caused by human activities is an indisputable fact, it will bring a series of deep influence on agriculture and food security, water resource security, energy security, ecological security and public health and safety. He said that with globalization of climate warming and historical roots, we should make efforts from science, technology, economy, political, social, and diplomatic to adapt and mitigate climate change.

He gave four suggestion on how to deal with global climate change: First, through readjustment of the industrial structure, follow the path of a low carbon economy and the development of efficient technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; Second, building major weather disaster monitoring, forecasting and emergency support system to deal with rain, drought, typhoons and other weather disasters caused by climate warming, and minimize losses; Third, giving full consideration of climate change impacts in urban planning, including the reduction of air pollution, acid rain and heat island effect, biodiversity protection and so on; Fourth, further strengthen climate change outreach and scientific education and improve the social scientific understanding of climate change and response capabilities.

Shenzhen Party Secretary Li Hongzhong said Academician Ding Yihui’s report was based on the strict scientific data, with rich professional knowledge, and he explained the significant human activity impacts on global climate from theory and practice. The report will help Shenzhen on dealing with global climate change in future, and promoting scientific development and harmonious development vigorously.
