The Consultation Meeting of Rainfall Season Prediction in 2007 sponsored by BCC was held in Beijing on April 2. About 100 experts from Provincial Meteorological Bureaus, National Meteorological Center, National Satellite Meteorological Center, National Climate Center, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Land and Resources P.R.C., the Natural Disaster Reduction Committee, Mitigation Center of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Hydrological Bureau of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Committee of the chief seven river basins, Peking University and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology attended the meeting. Dr. Li Weijing (deputy Director-General of BCC) presided the opening ceremony. The meeting last for two days to predict the floods/droughts trend of China rainfall season of 2007, the distribution of the main rainy belts and seven major river basins precipitation, summer temperature trends prediction of 2007 (especially the low temperature in Northeast China), and predict the tropical storms and typhoons that formed and landed in China in the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea in 2007.

Dr. Wang Shourong (Deputy Administrator of CMA) attended the opening ceremony and made a speech. He said that the climate prediction in rainfall season is very important for agricultural and industrial production, and is an important basis for disaster prevention and mitigation. Chinese leaders paid great attention on it, while General Secretary Hu Jintao send his best regards to climate workers in Spring Festival, he talked about climate and climate change. We hope experts will make a careful analysis of all affecting climate factors, fully considered the climate change trends in global warming background, and combined with dynamical climate model predictions to do a good job on rainfall season prediction in 2007.
