On 24 April 2007, Prof. C. P. Chang from Naval Postgraduate School, Chair of executive committee of WWRP monsoon panel visited BCC and LCS, and delivered a report on strategic plan on WWRP tropical meteorology research. Dr. Li Weijing, Deputy Director-General of BCC presided the seminar.
As an old friend of BCC, Prof. Chang is a world famous meteorologist. In 1990’s, he visited BCC for several times to facilitate the SCSMEX and participated in the compilation of scientific report. In recent years, he boosted 2008 Asian Monsoon Year Program (AMY08).
During the seminar, Prof. Chang mainly introduced 1) construction of WMO CAS and role of WWRP tropical meteorology research; 2) members of WWRP monsoon panel and Asian Monsoon Activity Center, in which he indicated that the EAMAC in Beijing is very active (the other two is New Delhi’s South Asian Monsoon Activity Center and Kuala Lumpur’s Southeast Asian Monsoon Activity Center); 3) strategic plan of WWRP tropical meteorology research and related international program.
Over 50 experts and graduate students attended the seminar and joined the discussion. Prof. Chang highly appraised the work of EAMAC and wished the Fourth WMO Monsoon Meeting would be hosted by China in 2008.
