On 24 April, Prof. Wang Bin from Hawaii University visited BCC and LCS, and delivered a report on “What would happen when Tibetan Plateau warms up?” Over 50 experts and students from NCC and CAMS attended the seminar. Dr. Li Weijing, Deputy Director-General of BCC, presided the seminar.
Prof. Wang is a well-known international meteorologist. He has made great achievement in tropical atmospheric dynamics and monsoon studies. Recently, he focused on the impact of Tibet warming on climate change in East Asia.
During his report, he mainly introduced his research on impact of Tibet warming on climate change in East Asia, especially on precipitation. He found the correlation on decadal scale, between the precipitation in East Asia and climate trend of surface temperature on Tibetan Plateau by data analysis; he validated the conclusion of data diagnostic analysis through numerical simulation by using ECHAM model; he carried out experiment on sensibility of impact of plateau warming on climate in East Asia and discussed the physical mechanism of the impact by using linearization model excluding humidification process. The participants warmly joined the discussion.
