May 18, Prof. David S. Battist (Department of Atmospheric Sciences of Washington University) and Prof. Rosamand L. Naylor (Environmental Research Center and International Research Center of Stanford University) visited BCC and LCS, and discussed the cooperation possibility of climate change and the study of El Nino effect on rice production in China's Jiangxi Province.
Prof. David S. Battist is senior research staff of Washington University JISAO Research Center and Director-General of TAMAKI Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, he is engaged in the research of El Nino phenomenon over the years. Prof. Rosamand L. Naylor is in charge of Stanford University food safety and environmental issues, as well as Project Host of environmental science, technology and policy. The study group is major in risk assessment of climate change and its impact analysis on Asia rice production, also the prediction of El Nino phenomenon impacts in China. They had done a lot of work on El Nino phenomenon impacts on Indonesian rice production, and hope to further carry out related research in Jiangxi Province.
The study group visited Geographic Science and Resources Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and made report. On the meeting, Prof. Ren Guoyu/LCS introduced the development process, composition, main professional areas and main conclusions of climate change facts and prediction. Participants also discussed related issues and cooperation prospects, and preliminary identified further research possibilities. Dr. Deng Xiangzheng (Geographic Science and Resources Institute/CAS), Dr. Yan Yuping/BCC, Prof. Zhao Zongci (Center for Wind and Solar Energy Resource Assessment), Prof. Zhang Chenyi, Dr. Xiu Hongmei and Dr. Song Yanling attended the meeting.
