In order to provide excellent weather forecast and services for the period of the Spring Festival of 2004, the conference on national weather forecast discussion was hosted by CMO in coalition with several relevant departments in the afternoon, January 19, 2004. The attendants of the meeting included Dr. Qin Dahe, administrator of CMA, Dr. Zheng Guoguang and Mr. Xu Xiaofeng, deputy administrator of CMA, Liu Yang, deputy director-general of DFSDM, Mr. Shi Peiliang, deputy director of NMC, Mr. Gu Chaoxi, deputy administrator of CNTA, Mr. Wang Yingjia, deputy director-general of Road Transportation Department of MOC, Mr. Du Xin, deputy director-general of Transportation Operation Department of MOR and leaders of Transportation Department of CAAC. The conference was presided by Ms. Jiao Meiyan, director of CMO.
Meteorologists from CMO and provincial meteorological offices including Beijing, Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Jiangsu and Hainan provinces jointly analyzed the local weather-developing trend for the period of the Spring Festival via the CMO television consultant system and Ms. Jiao Meiyan presented the summary for the discussion.
On behalf of the CNTA and NHO, Mr. Gu Chaoxi, deputy administrator of CNTA, gave his acknowledgement for the contribution of the national meteorological workers to the working of national tourism. He hoped that in the New Year that the CMA and CNTA would have a more close cooperation to provide better service on tourism and weather forecast for the public. Dr. Qin Dahe, administrator of CMA, after thanking the ministries for attending the conference, said that since being a coordinate department of the national holiday tourism union in last year, CMA has strengthened its forecast service on tourism and transportation, gained substantial achievements. He hoped that all departments should improve the monitoring on the change of weather situation and provide both timely and accurate forecast services to all the pertinent departments as well as the public as the golden week of spring festival is around the corner. Lastly, on behalf of the Committee of the Communist Party of China at CMA, Dr. Qin Dahe wished the meteorological staff throughout the country a happy festival.
After the conference, more than 20 news agencies such as China News Agency, People's Daily, China News, CCTV, CNR, China Radio International (CRI) and some popular websites published the forecasting result, an in-time weather forecast for the period of the Spring Festival to every home of the country.
