August 19, Prof. Wang Chenhai from College of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University visited Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC and Center for Climate Resource Assessment/BCC, and made a speech named “Can CGCMs simulate the 20th century ‘Warming hole’ in the Yangtze River Valley”. More than 20 participants from BCC (Beijing Climate Centre) and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) attended the meeting.
Prof. Wang Chenhai talked about the observation facts and simulation results by different models on ‘Warming hole’ in the Yangtze River Valley, and analysis the possible causes of ‘Warming hole’ from greenhouse gases, high altitude snow cover and ocean circulation. He pointed out that we should pay attention on the changes of the Northeast Pacific Ocean Circulation.
On the meeting, participants had discussion on the causes of ‘Warming hole’ and the different model performance. Prof. Zhu Rong from Center for Climate Resource Assessment/BCC presided the meeting.
