August 17, Dr. Piero Lionello from University of Lecce visited Laboratory for Climate Studies/BCC and Division of Climate System Modeling/BCC, and made a speech named “Med CLIVAR：A CLIVAR Programme for the Mediterranean Climate”. Experts from BCC (Beijing Climate Centre) and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) attended the meeting. Prof. Li Zhaoxin (BCC Special Expert) presided the meeting.
Dr. Piero Lionello has work a lot on the Mediterranean climate change research. In his report, he talked about his research. As huge water, the Mediterranean occupy an important geographical location, it’s the political, economic and culture center of European. In recent years, Mediterranean and its surrounding areas carry enormous pressure of the environment in the global climate change background. MedCLIVAR Programme aimed at restructuring and promoting climate variability and climate change research of this region.
His report has a lot of new contents, his research results of Mediterranean climate change are good reference for China and even the East Asian region. On the meeting, participants had a lively discussion on his report.
