“The national annual workshop of climate prediction for 2007-2008” is held in BCC on November 1-2, 2007. Experts from BCC/CMA, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, the Ministry of Land and Resources of PRC, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of PRC, Atmospheric Physics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Science, Peking University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Water Information Center, Meteorological Center of the Yellow River and Huaihe River, the regional and provincial Climate Center participated in the meeting. They made deep analysis on the characteristics of the main factors that affecting climate, and refer to the prediction result by dynamical and statistical methods to make the annual climate report of China for 2007-2008. They predicted the temperature and precipitation trends for 2007 winter, 2008 spring and summer, cold air activities in winter and spring, and the possibility of anomalous high temperature in summer and cool injury in the Northeast area, the northern spring drought and distribution characteristics of the flood and drought in summer of 2008.
Dr. Xu Xiaofeng (Deputy Administrator of CMA) attended the meeting and he said the extreme climate events in 2007 are more than last year, we should attach great importance to climate prediction, and make scientific analysis on extreme climate events.
After two days abundant discussion, BCC summarized the prediction of different units and formed the trend prediction result of the annual climate of China for 2007-2008, then report it to the Central Party, the State Council and relevant decision department.
