On the last day of the Sheep Year, a symposium on NSFC project application was held by DSTD/NMC. Totally 40 experts from NCC, CMO, MIC and CAMS attended the symposium. Mr. Lu Zewei, deputy director-general of Department of Earth Sciences, NSFC was invited to the symposium. Dr. Dong Wenjie, deputy director-general of NMC presided the symposium.
Mr. Lu Zewei firstly introduced the general situation of the financial support by NSFC in the recent ten years as well as the prior supported fields, then had an informal discussion on the following topics: 1) the major objects supported by NSFC (which is of innovative ideas, new data and new methods); 2) application skills (comprehensive understanding of the national and international research status, limited goals, detailed content and novel themes); 3) Characteristics of NMC (to epurate valuable academic ideas from the operational work). The discussion was filled with passion.
Dr. Dong Wenjie reviewed that NMC had obtained good results in the application for NSFC in 2003. He wished the NMC staff would actively take part in the application in 2004, to strive for a greater success.
