The 2007 Annual Academic Meeting of National Climate Center and Laboratory for Climate Studies was held from 25 to 26 February 2008 in Beijing. Nearly 150 delegates from 38 departments, including Peking University, Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Beijing Normal University, Institute of Atmospheric Physics/CAS, Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute/CAS, Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology/CAS, Institute of Environmental Development/CAAS, and relevant departments of CMA, as well as experts from NCC, NMC and NMIC attended the meeting. Dr. Luo Yong, Deputy Director-General of NCC, presided the opening ceremony. Dr. Li Weijing, Deputy Director-General of NCC, made an address in the opening ceremony.
Four experts were specially invited as invited speakers by the meeting, including Academician Ding Yihui from NCC, Prof. Wang Shaowu from PKU, Prof. Zhang Renhe from CAMS, and Prof. Shi Pengfei from China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group Co. (CHECC).
The annual meeting contained 3 sub-sessions: mechanism and prediction of climate variability and climate assessment, detection and projection of climate change and its impact assessment, climate resources assessment. The themes include 1) research on diagnostics and mechanism of climate variability; 2) research on climate modeling and prediction methods; 3) regional climate analysis and assessment; 4) climate change monitoring, detection and cause analysis; 5) climate change simulation and projection; 6) climate change impact and assessment; 7) evaluation and utilization of climate resources such as wind power and solar energy.
The annual meeting was of success, which achieved the aims of opening up, cooperation, combination and exchange. During the two-day academic exchanges, 93 presentations were delivered which is the most over the past years, and nearly 100 abstracts were gathered.
