It is forecasted by BCC (CMA) and relevant departments that from April 23 to May 21, the precipitation was less than 20mm in most areas of Northwest China and Inner Mongolia, northwestern Heilongjiang and western Tibet. In central and western Gansu, Ningxia, northwestern Qinghai and southern Xinjiang, the precipitation was less than 10mm or none. Compared with the past years, this year’s precipitation was generally 30 to 80 percent less.
Due to the sustainable little rainfall, the drought situation in the west of Northwest China, northeastern Inner Mongolia, northwestern Heilongjiang, etc, intensifies. Some local places have even become severe dry. The grade of forest-fire in northeastern Inner Mongolia and northwestern Heilongjiang has been continuous high. Fire prevention situation has become serious.
It is forecasted that in the following 10 days, the cold air in the north of China will active frequently. The temperatures of most areas will approach the corresponding period of the past years. The rainfall will increase in the east of Northwest China, North and Northeast China. The drought in northwestern Heilongjiang, northeastern Inner Mongolia will be mitigated. However, in the east of Northwest China and central and western Inner Mongolia, the precipitation will be less than enough. So the drought may probably intensify.
