On 6 May, the Beijing Climate Centre (BCC) organized a video/audio conference on continuously updated climate trend predictions and the South China Sea monsoon monitoring/prediction for the flood-prone season in 2008. The leaders of the CMA DFSDM, the specially invited experts including Academician TAO Shiyan from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor WANG Shaowu from the Peking University, and representatives from the BCC, NMC, NSMC, CAMS participated in the conference, consulting with all other provincial (autonomous regional or municipal) meteorological bureaus at their respective remote sites of the conference. Dr. XIAO Ziniu, the Deputy Director-General of the BCC, presided over the consultation conference. The participating experts discussed the monitoring and outbreak trends of South China Sea monsoon, and the running revision of the climate trend prediction during the flood season in 2008.
On June 4, the Second Video & Audio conference on continually updated climate trend predictions during the flood-prone season in 2008 was held. Dr. YU Rucong, the Deputy Administrator of CMA, attended the consultation conference. The consultation focused discussions on the monitoring of South China Sea monsoon, the forecast of Meiyu season, the running revision of the climate trend prediction during the flood season, the trend analysis of extreme weather and climatic events in Beijing during the Olympic Games, and the climate trend prediction and relevant services for the post-earthquake reconstruction of earthquake-stricken areas.
