It is informed from Beijing Climate Centre of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) that the loss caused by typhoon from January to August this year is less than the average of the same period since 2000 in China. There are 12 typhoons formed (including the tropical storm and strong tropical storm) in the first eight months, which are less than that of the same period. There are 6 typhoons landing in southeast coastal areas of China, which are more than usual in the same period (4.7 typhoons usually). Those typhoons afflicted 19 million people and 100 deaths with 10 missing from January to August. There are 102 thousand houses destroyed and direct economical loss up to 12.2 billion Yuan. In a word the loss is less than that of the some period since 2000 because of generally weaker typhoons and accurate forecast and timely prevention.
