The 15th tropical cyclone of the year in the western North Pacific, Severe Tropical Storm Jangmi, has developed. Currently positioned some 1 200 km east of Manila, Philippines, it is forecast to move primarily northwestward with further intensification to typhoon intensity (maximum wind speed near the centre 35 m/s within the next 24 hours. The RSMC Tokyo Typhoon Centre is watching the new storm and providing guidance to the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in the area.
