On the presentation ceremony Bedritsky said that the Chinese meteorological colleagues made great progress in research, education and young scientist training. The young generation has made accomplishments in the meteorological research and study, among which Sunying was a model. Dr. Sun Ying from BCC for her paper entitled “How often does it rain?” published in the Journal of Climate. The article evaluates the precipitation intensity, frequency and amount simulated by seventeen global climate models by comparing the model results with worldwide observations. The research fruit of Sunying is very important to understanding the climate problems, and further understanding the effect of precipitation difference to climate change. The award also showed that the Chinese scientists had also contributed much to the programs and activities of the WMO.
