“The national annual workshop of climate prediction for 2008-2009” is held in BCC on Oct. 29, 2008. Dr. Zhang Zuqiang (Deputy Director-General of Department of Forecasting Services and Disaster Mitigation), and Dr. Xiao Ziniu (Director-General of NCC) made address on the opening ceremony. Dr. Li Weijing (Deputy Director-General of NCC) presided the opening ceremony. Experts from regional and provincial Climate Center, BCC, National Meteorological Center, National Satellite Meteorological Center, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Institute of Atmospheric Physics of Chinese Academy of Science, Cold and Arid Regions Environment and Engineering Research Institute/CAS, Peking University, and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology participated in the meeting.
They made deep analysis on the characteristics of the main factors that affecting climate, and predicted the temperature and precipitation trends for 2008/2009 winter, 2009 spring and summer on Oct. 29-30. They have focus on the analysis of the main physical factors that impact on the national or regional precipitation, and form the relatively clear prediction models or methods of physical significance or weather and climate concept. Make analysis and prediction on the temperature trend of Winter and Spring and Summer; the intensity of the cold air activities; anomalous high temperature in the summer; the possibility of chilling damage occurred in the Northeast China; the trend of the precipitation in winter and summer, and the distribution characteristics of the North spring drought and droughts and floods trend of 2009 summer in China. To strengthen the exchanges and cooperation among national, regional and provincial climate operation, and do a good job in climate trends prediction and services for the rebuilding of the earthquake area.
