The 14th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in Poznan, Poland.
WMO Secretary-General, Michel Jarraud, today underlined the importance of anticipating climate risks to life and economy through climate predictions and information, and stressed the need for greater attention to be given to adaptation strategies as the necessary complement to any mitigation measures. World Climate Conference-3, to be held in Geneva from 31 August to 4 September 2009, will contribute to the success of global initiatives aimed at improving society’s resilience to climate risks.
Tomorrow, Mr Jarraud will participate in a round table, presided by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on the UN-coordinated action to deliver as one on climate change. WMO and UNESCO lead the climate knowledge component of the broader initiative.
