A working meeting on climate science cooperation between Ministry of Science and Technology of China and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has been held in Beijing on Aug. 12 to 14. Shen Xiaonong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Ding Zhongli, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Mike Riches with DOE have attended the meeting.
On the meeting Shen Xiaonong said that China and America had good cooperation basis and intensions to address climate change and carried out effective work in climate science cooperation. Facing with lasting effects of climate change, he expressed wish to strengthen cooperation in observation of climate system and attribution of climate change, development of climate model and ancient climate simulation, assessment for effects of climate change, monitoring of greenhouse gases emission, material exchange, and other mutually concerned fields enhancing the science and technology level of both countries.
It is reported that CMA and DOE have carried out cooperation on climate science since 1995. The cooperation covers fields such as regional climate model, agricultural and hydrological model and their effects to China and America. Both sides have set up a monitoring station for atmospheric chemistry in Yangjiang, Guangdong observing east Asia monsoon, and emission of rice methane.
