On 6-8 April 2010, the Sixth Session of the Forum on Regional Climate Monitoring-Assessment-Prediction for RAII was held in Beijing. The forum is one of the activities of the 60th anniversary of Central Meteorological Observatory. Over 70 participants from 17 countries and territories attended the forum. Dr. Xu Xiaofeng and Ms. Jiao Meiyan, Deputy Administrators of CMA attended the forum.
Dr. Rupa Kumar Kolli, Representative of WMO, and Dr. Xiao Ziniu, Director-General of BCC, made addresses respectively. Dr. Xiao said that, BCC will cooperate with other countries in more open way, and enhance capacity building on climate monitoring, climate prediction, data services and training, to promote the capability on regional climate information services in Asia. Recently BCC will also improve its visiting scholarship program to support and encourage more experts especially those from Asian countries to participate in BCC’s capacity building on regional climate services.
During the 3-day forum, the delegates from various countries introduced their work progress on climate monitoring, prediction and impact assessment, and joined the discussion on drought/flood trend, Asian monsoon, high temperature, typhoon frequency and intensity in summer this year.
A sub-session on cooperation and regional climate information services was held for the first time in the forum. The main purpose of the sub-session is to introduce BCC development plan and discuss the regional cooperation in Asia.
