Laboratory for Climate Studies (LCS), a key laboratory founded by the CMA in January 1995 under the National Climate Center, has evolved into an important base for assembling top-notch scientists for innovations in science and technology, accelerating application of research findings in operations, nurturing outstanding young researchers, and promoting international exchange and cooperation.
Guided by the goal of “innovation, development, and prosperity” and the rule of “inclusiveness, mobility, and cooperation”, LCS has made important breakthroughs in climate system studies, participated widely in global climate research programs, and contributed significantly to national socio-economic development, modernization of meteorological services, and solution to global climate change and environmental issues, a feat which won it a CMA excellence award in 2016.
LCS research team is made up of in-house scientists and eminent experts invited over from both home and abroad as guest researchers or specialists.
Major Research Orientations:
-Short-term climate prediction theories and techniques;
-High resolution climate system model, regional model and their operational applications;
-Climate change detection, attribution, projection and adaption studies.
